PHANGO (pronounced P’ungo), is an alliance of health-focused NGOs and patient organisations.

Mission: By working together as an alliance PHANGO seeks to have patients involved in key issues that related to the quality of healthcare
The objectives of PHANGO are:
- To collaborate with health sector non-governmental organisations to promote the following to the benefit of patients:
- Quality of health care;
- Access to health care;
- Ethical, legal and clinical issues relevant to patients;
- Patient advocacy;
- Patient empowerment.
- To lobby for the above issues as an alliance;
- To provide a communication and support network for related issues.
- To promote good governance among members (full or associate) and to provide support to attain acceptable standards.
PHANGO is the voice of member NGOs on important national policy issues such as the Health Charter, ICD10 Coding Confidentiality and Consumer Rights Bill. PHANGO was invited to make a presentation to the SA Human Rights Commission on the right to access of health care. PHANGO is working on a number projects planned in relation access to healthcare in the public and private sectors.
